Common questions

FAQs about Broken Key Extraction

How do you remove a snapped key?

We use specialist extraction tools — fine picks, broken-key extractor screws, and small tweezers — to grip the broken piece and pull it out without damaging the lock.

Will extraction damage the lock?

No. Done correctly, extraction is non-destructive. The lock works the same after. If the key was already weakened (worn, corroded, twisted), we may suggest cutting a fresh key and possibly a replacement lock cylinder as a precaution.

What if the key broke in the ignition?

Same process. We extract from the ignition lock cylinder using a different toolset. The risk is slightly higher to the lock mechanism, but the procedure is well-established for most makes and models.

How long does extraction take?

Usually 15-45 minutes. A clean snap is fast; a corroded or wedged break can take longer. We'll give you a time estimate on the phone when you call.
