Common questions

FAQs about Ignition Barrel Repair

What goes wrong with an ignition barrel?

Worn wafers, broken springs, snapped keys left in the lock, and (in older Ford and Vauxhall) the known weak springs in the barrel. Modern cars rarely have mechanical ignition issues — usually it's a key recognition problem rather than a mechanical one.

Can you repair an ignition barrel on site?

Yes, for most common cars. We carry popular replacement barrels for Ford, Vauxhall, VW, Peugeot, Citroën and others. Less common cars may need a part ordered, which we can do same-day in many cases.

How long does a barrel replacement take?

Usually 60-90 minutes on site. More involved cases (where the key has snapped and damaged the lock) can take longer.

Will the new barrel match my existing key?

We can re-key the new barrel to your existing key in most cases. Otherwise we supply a fresh set of keys coded to the new barrel and the car's immobiliser.
